The predecessor of the Society for Thrombosis and Haemostasis Research e.V. (GTH), the German Association for Blood Coagulation Research (DAB), was founded in November 1956 in Heidelberg. The association’s mission was to start a discussion forum “for specialists working in the field of blood clotting”.
In 1982, the Society for Thrombosis and Haemostasis Research was founded as it exists today. Since then, GTH has held a conference in Germany, Austria or Switzerland every year and has established itself as the world’s second largest specialist society in the field of thrombosis and haemostasis.

GTH is a non-profit association in the sense of an interdisciplinary, scientific and medical professional society and serves purely scientific and educational purposes. The more than 1000 members of GTH deal clinically and scientifically with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of coagulation disorders and thrombotic diseases.
Current research results are presented and discussed at annual meetings. GTH is a member of the Association of Scientific Medical Societies and is in close cooperation with other national and international specialist societies.
